The 1394, Firewire
(6 pin) and iLink (4 pin) are synonymous, used by various
manufacturers for the latest High Speed Serial Bus technology
which is going to provide a bridging link to the PC, iMac
and AV equipment platforms. The 1394 Link supports serial
data rates up to 100, 200 and 400 Mbps. At 400 Mbps, this
translates to 33 times the speed of USB. 3 times the speed
of IDE HDD, 40x 10 MB Ethernet and 4x 100 MB Ethernet.
The primary application is for connectivity on personal
computers using low cost, scalable, high-speed serial
interface.
